BALLE - Business Alliance for Local Living Economies

BALLE_logo

The Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) is North America’s fastest growing network of socially responsible businesses, comprised of over 80 community networks in 30 U.S. states and Canadian provinces representing over 22,000 independent business members across the U.S. and Canada.

BALLE brings together independent business leaders, economic development professionals, government officials, social innovators, and community leaders to build local living economies. We provide local, state, national, and international resources to this new model of economic development.

We´re showing that independent locally owned businesses can go beyond traditional measures of success. We’re proving that these businesses are accountable to stakeholders and the environment. We’re helping these businesses flourish in their local economies. And we’re leveraging the power of local networks to build a web of economies that are community-based, green, and fair - local living economies.

Investors’ Circle is a network of over 225 angel investors, professional venture capitalists, foundations, family offices, and others who are using private capital to promote the transition to a sustainable economy. Since 1992, Investors’ Circle has facilitated the flow of over $134 million into more than 200 companies and small funds addressing social and environmental issues.

Investors’ Circle holds two venture fairs each year as part of our spring and fall conferences. The venture fairs serve as our most productive avenues for deal flow. At these events, we invite roughly 20 companies to make short presentations to an exclusive audience of accredited investors. The conference program also includes ample networking time. Our Spring Venture Fair takes place in San Francisco and our Fall Venture Fair takes place in Boston. Since 2005, roughly $30million has been invested into over 40 Investors’ Circle Companies. Companies that are invited to present are asked to pay a $995 presentation fee.

Slow Money Alliance

New_SM_logo

Founded by Woody Tasch, a pioneer in merging investing and philanthropy, Slow Money’s mission is to build local and national networks, and develop new financial products and services, dedicated to investing in small food enterprises and local food systems; connecting investors to their local economies; and, building the nurture capital industry.

Soil fertility, carrying capacity, sense of place, care of the commons, cultural, ecological and economic health and diversity, nonviolence – these are the fundamentals of nurture capital, a new financial sector supporting the emergence of a restorative economy. And these are the fundamentals of the Slow Money Principles.

Slow Money’s goal is: a million Americans investing 1% of their assets in local food systems within a decade.

Because the first step is a fundamentally new way of thinking about money, our first step is a campaign to obtain signatories to the Slow Money Principles. Our next step is growing the Slow Money Alliance into a major national network that provides strategic and financial assistance to local initiatives around the country. The Founding Members of the Slow Money Alliance includes many recognized leaders in organic food, sustainable agriculture, philanthropy and social investing.
