Environmental Capital Markets
Climate Change
Emerging markets for reducing Greenhouse Gases (GHG) have been developing regionally, nationally and internationally. Mission Markets provides opportunities for financing projects, investment funds, and businesses focused on addressing these opportunities. Mission Markets Earth will allow the trading of voluntary carbon credits following well accepted standards.
Sustainable Fisheries
Generally, fisheries are poorly managed due to what is called the “tragedy of the commons.” Individual Transferable Quotas (ITQ) – also called fishery Catch Shares – assigns ITQ holders a specific percentage of the annual allowable catch and can resolve this “tragedy”. Mission Markets supports investments in fisheries Cooperatives, fisheries trusts, permit banks, community quota entities and sustainable aquaculture. Through Mission Markets Earth, we facilitate transfers and leases in Catch Shares.
Sustainable Infrastructure
Sustainable infrastructure refers to products and processes selected by land-use and urban planners, developers, builders, designers and architects that are in harmony with the environment and enhance living and working conditions. Mission Markets supports investments in sustainable infrastructure projects including brownfield redevelopment, green building, LEED certified development, low impact development and green infrastructure funds.
Renewable Energy and Cleantech
As society moves from an economy dependent on fossil fuels and polluting technologies new products and services developed to support this transition create opportunities for investment. For example, Mission Markets facilitates investments in solar power, bio-fuels, energy efficiency, and other sectors and activities that can generate financial returns and help move society towards a sustainable future.
Conservation Finance
Conservation finance covers a wide range of new and emerging financing vehicles targeted to support nature conservation. These include payments for ecosystem services (PES) in which nature’s services are brought into the market economy through national, regional, and state based regulations and voluntary markets. Currently investments exists for financing wetland mitigation banks, habitat banks, and land and water-based easements and rights. Other opportunities such as marine biodiversity offsets and “Blue Carbon” are on the horizon.
Environmental Investment Funds
Mission Markets supports Environmental Investment Funds, specifically those that target biodiversity markets by investing equity and debt capital in private environmental companies and conservation finance opportunities and projects including sustainable forestry, carbon, wetland, habitat and water quality. Mission Markets provides environmental funds access to capital, deal sourcing and liquidity for environmental credit holdings through Mission Markets Earth.
