Cooperatives are a business entity that are used in a wide variety of sectors including farming, healthcare, childcare, financial services, housing, purchasing and shared services, energy, communications and others. According to the National Cooperative Business Association (NCBA), there are 250 purchasing cooperatives, 6,400 housing cooperatives, and 900 rural electrical cooperatives to focus only a few types of cooperatives.

In general, cooperatives are formed to provide members with economies of scale and buying power and they promote ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others. Mission Markets supports all cooperatives seeking to create social and environmental impact.
